Mount Caplone

Floating block

Garda Bresciano Park. It is part of the Brescia Prealps and it’s at 1976 meters above sea level, dominating the entire valley below.

The highest peak in Tremosine sul Garda is very interesting both in terms of nature and history. In fact, its other name is ‘Cima delle Guardie’, because the ridges of Mount Caplone once represented the border between Austria and Italy.

From Mount Caplone, just like from the Passo Nota area, it is possible to discover forts and trenches, signs left by the Great War.

Discovering the nature of Monte Caplone

The area of Mount Caplone is well known for its botanical diversity - the ecosystems that succeed one another along the slopes of the mountain are home to many different species of flora and fauna, appreciated and studied by experts from all over Europe.

On Mount Caplone we can indeed discover endangered animals and plants that can only be found in this area and in a few others around the Prealps - for example, we can find endemic flora species like Saxifraga Tombeanensis, Daphne Petraea, Saxifraga Arachnoidea and more, while the southern slope of the Tombea is home to ibex and chamois.

That's why the paths of Mount Caplone are perfect for nature lovers!

On its slopes you’ll walk through pine forests and pastures until you get to the rocky crests near the top from where you can admire the Presanella, Adamello and Brenta massifs, and of course also Mount Tremalzo.

On the Tombea summit (1915 meters) a ring shows you where to look to see these massifs - and when it’s really clear, you can also glimpse the profile of Monte Rosa.

Curious fact - do you know the village of Cima Rest?

At the foot of Mount Caplone you can visit Cima Rest, a small village 1200 meters above sea level famous for its traditional houses and barns with a sloping straw roof.

These houses are located near Magasa, in the heart of the Park, and have been recently renovated by the Alto Garda Bresciano Mountain Community.

These are buildings dating back to the Austro-Hungarian era can now be rented for a stay surrounded by the nature of the Alto Garda Bresciano Park.
