Easter in Tremosine sul Garda
Pasqua a Tremosine sul Garda (Easter in Tremosine sul Garda) is a very important event in the local tradition, historically related to the game of "S-Ciapì".
We devote ourselves to children and to the discovery of ancient games, which have always been present in the life of Tremosine sul Garda farmers. Eggs are the protagonists of this game - according to the Christian tradition, eggs symbolize the beginning of a new life.
The game of "S-Ciapì" consists in holding a hard-boiled egg while the opponent hits it with another egg. The winner is the one who is able to keep their own egg whole, and break the other: losers must give their the egg to winners.
Easter is not just about games - there are also gastronomic specialties like the "Spongadì", a delicious ring-shaped cake that for the occasion is cooked in the shape of a dove with the addition of a whole egg in the dough, which becomes firm when cooked.
On Good Friday, the last holy day before Easter, the village lights up with candles traditionally placed on windowsills, that accompany the procession of the dead Christ with their light.
